St Joseph's Children's Liturgy

We at St Joseph's Children's Liturgy team feel we are in a very privileged position as we are allowed to share our faith and love for God with the young people of our parish.  “Teaching is an act of love. It is like giving life”, Pope Francis has said.  Children first learn about faith from their families and teachers and our liturgy endeavours to make that learning as enjoyable and interactive as possible with the abiding message of God’s love for us underlying every Sunday lesson.

We encourage children from the age of four upwards (under fours are very welcome with an adult) to join us. We discuss the Gospel of the day with the children in an informal but prayerful way. We ask questions, tell relevant stories and all children are encouraged to participate  but never pressured to speak.

Our collage board is an important part of our liturgy and here the children display what they learned that day and the board is brought into church and shared with the rest of the congregation. Every week the children get to colour, glue, use stickers and lots of other materials to decorate the board with the message of the gospel. Our children also volunteer to be prayer readers and love to share those prayers by reading them aloud in church. In this way children's liturgy becomes an integral part of the Holy Sacrifice of Mass.

We would love to encourage more children to attend our liturgy and get them talking about and thinking about the great message of love that God has for all of us.
